Unwrapping The Truth
One pallet alone demands 12-22 m2 of plastic wrapping for secure transport.
We globally manufacture 5 billion pallets annually, making the waste production from pallets and wrapping an unnoticed costs of packaging in our global logistics systems.
The Single-Use Approach
36% of all plastic produced is used to create packaging, 85% of which ends up in landfills. Globally, we produce around 400 million tons of plastic waste per year.
1 ton of plastic generates 2,5 tons of CO2 emissions for its production and an additional 2,7 tons of CO2 emissions for its typical disposal form which is incineration.
The Future of Packaging
The current levels of resource extraction and packaging waste generation in the logistics sector are clearly unsustainable.
Meanwhile, the pallet and wrapping industry is projected to double by 2030. This presents a significant challenge, but it also offers an opportunity to reconsider the role of packaging in global logistics.
